Okay scooterists.
I'm going to suggest a Ride on the first sunday of every month.
Maybe if we have something that is a regular thing, we can get more people involved and meeting up.

SO...the first one will be Sunday, August 1st.
For now we can just meet at Monkey Wrench @ 2:00
(we can change the meet up place and time, doesn't matter to me)

Come on out...one and all.
If you have a favorite route you can bring or suggest that would be great.

So Here it is:

First Sunday ride:
Sunday August 1
Meet @ Monkey Wrench - 2:00

Well, I still think it'd be cool to have a ride down Southern Parkway, and up to the Iroquois Overlook, if that's any help!

That sounds like a great idea...let's do that for this first one.
I'll look at that area on a map...i'm not too familiar with that area...other than going to Vietnam Kitchen, I don't get out there too often.
So if you have an exact route in mind...you can lead us (if you can make it)

If you can't make it...maybe let me know what route you have in mind.

Thanks man!

Well, if you go straight down Southern Parkway, it runs RIGHT into Iroquois Park, so it's pretty hard to miss (more of Mr. Olmstead's admirable work, I presume). Take your first right into the park, and I believe the next left (at the stop sign, across from the golf course) either takes you into the parking lot, and/or onto the access road to the portion of the park located on top of the hill. I've got no problem with "leading" -- so long as y'all don't go tearin' off up the road without me again (I still remember getting ready to turn off at Evergreen to see Wilson Pickett's grave, and everybody barrelling off down the road without me! Laughing )

Also might not hurt to check with the parks dept. to make sure the road to the top will be open -- that a scooter couldn't slip past the barricade easily, but why piss off the local gendarmes? It also might be possible to do a full circuit of the lower portion of the park, if the roads aren't barricaded off. I'll see if I can't find out anything.

Speaking of Vietnam Kitchen, that might actually might make a nice little secondary destination! I discovered a long time ago that, if you want to get REALLY special attention there (especially if the owner's working), show up on a Vespa! He gets all nostalgic, you get a free dessert ... Confused

I've marked the date/time on my computer calendar, so I can try to plan ahead for it ...

Pencil me in, that's going to be an active weekend for me, but scooting hits my list sorta high. Also 2 does sound like a great start time. While I have little to suggest a ride from the Monkey to Iroqouis, will be breif, however enjoyable, without a little more.. sorry I'm a (scooter) junky.

Sundays are kid days for me, so until I can mount a two seated side car, I'm out. Sad

If by chance I get my scooter running, get a headlight, tires, all new cables, and a license plate by next Sunday, I'll be there.

It's a long shot, but who knows, it might happen.

Rick and I hope to be there. We will be at the event at the fairgrounds most of the weekend, but hope to join the ride. Great idea!

Looks like we will have a decent turnout for this Sunday...I'm excited!

I haven't haerd from Uwe or the new Veganstella guy yet...hopefully they'll be showing up too.

I think the Southern Parkway to Iroqouis Park ride sounds great (Doug will lead that)...If anyone wants to take the lead from Doug after that leg is over, feel free to find a good ride starting at the park.

See everyone on Sunday at the Wrench...2:00

I'm pretty sure I can be there. If weather looks ugly - I may not come out. I have a thing with riding in wet conditions after my spill.

Yes, but you're working now, and (presumably) saving up scooter money. Smile

I think Uwe and Ashley are still in Japan, as I understand it -- if they're back, they're probably going to be pretty jet-lagged.

Last minute change of plans... Christine and I are going to look at a scooter for her at 2P.

Sorry... Sad

Hey guys it has been a while since i have been on the forums.

Finally got my Mojito up and running, still needs a lot more work though. Anyway I have yet to meet anyone from the forums and would like to go on the Sunday run tomorrow. I have been to the monkey wrench one time but do not remember exactly how to get there if someone would like to help guide me there with some directions coming from Dixie highway that would be great.

Keep scootin.

Jeremy

I forgot all about mapquest, I appreciate it but after the rain stopped and dried up tonight I took a ride out to the highlands and found the Monkey Wrench. So I will definitely be there.

I had alot of fun and enjoyed meeting everyone I hadn't already met...

I had a problem all day where I kept thinking I was in gear but was in neutral. Happened like 5 times. The last one was after Vietnam kitchen and in my attempt to rectify the situation I think a couple people got left behind and I popped a wheelie... Haha. Sorry guys.

No, we were turning right there anyway. I was laughing at your wheelie. My white Stella (with the original engine) used to pop wheelies all the time. I'm not sure if my current scooter has enough torque to do that.

Glad you all liked it! Wish I'd seen the post about the Knobs before I left home for the day. Perhaps next month. I was just thinking a moment ago about about suggesting a ride to Huber's next month -- that's a bit more of a haul, but might satisfy those folks who'd like a longer ride. That might be good for September or October, since there's a whole little tourist-y complex up there, there's the winery, a sort of general store, and a restaurant the size of a football field. Good destination for a sunny fall day, just thought I'd throw that out there (might be awhile, though, before y'all let me lead the pack again! Embarassed ). Maybe meet downtown New Albany, head up State St. into the Knobs. Can go back the same way, or take the "scenic" route down. Also a ride just around Skyline Drive is nice, and there are a few nice spots with a view (I'm thinking there might even be one pull-off point, but I can't recall just now)
